Partial discharge in high-voltage cables refers to the discharge that occurs between electrodes but does not penetrate them. These weak discharges produce cumulative effects, gradually deteriorating the dielectric performance of the insulation, amplifying defects, and ultimately leading to the breakdown of the entire insulation. In addition, most mechanical damage can also cause partial discharge to occur. Cable partial discharge is a monitoring device used to measure partial discharge on cable joints and terminal grounding lines, achieving online partial discharge monitoring of joints, terminals, and cables.
By installing partial discharge detection equipment on the grounding wire of the cable joint, real-time detection of partial discharge signals occurring inside the cable can effectively remove interference signals. Partial discharge signals are transmitted to the substation monitoring center through optical cables, and the type and level of partial discharge are analyzed and judged by the analysis system. The impact of partial discharge is evaluated, the insulation status of equipment is determined, and corresponding equipment maintenance and repair guidance plans are provided to prevent power outages caused by cable insulation.

The high-voltage cable partial discharge monitoring unit mainly consists of partial discharge sensors, partial discharge signal processors, and partial discharge monitoring hosts.
Partial discharge sensor: installed on the grounding wire of the cable joint, it senses the partial discharge signal of the cable in real time and outputs it to the partial discharge signal processor through the BNC interface.
Partial discharge signal processor: The partial discharge signal processor is a front-end high-speed broadband sampling and signal transmission unit installed at on-site monitoring points, capable of monitoring partial discharge signals within a range of 1km on each side of the cable.
Partial discharge monitoring host: installed in the substation monitoring room, with upper level partial discharge signal monitoring software installed in the background. It connects to the front-end PD detection equipment through fiber optic network and receives detection signals from various PD sensors. Analyze and process the received monitoring data, evaluate the defect status of the cable, and immediately output an alarm if any partial discharge indicators exceed the standard.
